Two ways to bring experienced product leadership into your team

DIFFERENT SITUATIONS CALL FOR DIFFERENT LEVELS OF SUPPORT.
You might need focused time to step back, understand what’s really happening and reset your product direction. Or you might need an experienced product leader alongside your team to provide ongoing direction, decision-making and momentum.
Both engagements start with the same thing: understanding your business, customers, team and current reality. From there, we focus on what will make the biggest difference and build the level of support around it.

Some situations need a reset. Some need a senior product person in the room every week.
Both start the same way: finding out what's really happening.
If this sounds like you:
You've lost confidence in the roadmap, or a big investment decision is coming
Nobody owns product direction, and you need someone doing it now
You're not sure yet
Product Direction Reset
Six weeks to a roadmap your team actually believes in.
The roadmap is rarely the real problem. The decisions behind it are: what matters most, which assumptions still hold, what the team can realistically deliver, and which trade-off leadership has been putting off.
A Reset creates the space to answer those questions — and the discipline to act on the answers.
Who it's for:
-
Leadership teams who've lost confidence in the roadmap
-
Teams coming out of a missed deadline, a big launch or a leadership change
-
Companies about to make a major investment who want to be sure it's pointed in the right direction
-
Founders and investors who want an independent read on where the product really stands
What we'll look at:
-
Business goals and priorities
-
Customer needs and context
-
Product strategy and assumptions
-
Roadmap and backlog
-
Delivery capacity and constraints
-
Dependencies and commitments
-
Product and engineering alignment
-
Who owns which decisions

How the six weeks run
Weeks 1–2 — Understand
I talk to the people closest to the work across business, product and engineering. The real problems show up in conversations, not documentation.
Weeks 3–4 — Prioritize
We work through assumptions, competing priorities, commitments and trade-offs, and decide what matters most.
Weeks 5–6 — Reset
We build a roadmap grounded in business goals, customer needs and real capacity, with the reasoning written down so it holds up when things change.
You'll walk away with
-
A prioritized roadmap and the reasoning behind every call
-
A clear record of trade-offs, including what you've chosen not to do
-
Leadership, product and engineering aligned around one plan
-
A recommendation on the product leadership you need next
Six weeks. Clear direction. No ongoing commitment.
Interim Product Leadership
Experienced product leadership, embedded in your team without the full-time hire.
Product leadership should grow with the company, and often it doesn't.
You might have a strong engineering team and nobody owning product direction. Or a Product Manager who needs experienced leadership around them. Or you're carrying every product decision yourself.
I join your team, bring senior product judgment to the decisions in front of you, and stay close enough to delivery to see those decisions through.

Where I help:
-
Asking whether something needs to be built at all
-
Owning product direction and the roadmap
-
Prioritization and trade-off decisions
-
Discovery and validation
-
Vendor and partner accountability
-
Product and engineering alignment
-
Stakeholder and executive communication
-
A product operating rhythm that sticks
-
Coaching product managers and product owners
What it looks like in practice:
-
Embedded with your team, billed hourly, with a 20-hour weekly minimum
-
Two-month minimum — long enough to make real changes, with the possibility of extending if the project still needs me
-
Remote, with on-site availability in Calgary as needed
-
Regular leadership check-ins on progress, risks and decisions
-
Rates shared once I understand what you need
What clients say
Practical, collaborative and willing to ask the hard questions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why hire an independent product consultant instead of a full-time employee?
You may need experienced product leadership now, but not know what your needs will look like in six or twelve months.
Working with an independent consultant gives you access to senior product experience without making a permanent hire before you're ready. You can bring me in to solve a specific problem, support a team through a period of change, or provide ongoing product leadership while you figure out what comes next.
How flexible is the engagement?
Very. My engagements have ranged from a few hours a day to more embedded needs. We can adjust the level of support around the work that actually needs to get done.
That's particularly useful when priorities are moving quickly, you're navigating growth or change, or you're still figuring out what your product organization needs to look like.
How long do engagements typically last?
Most ongoing engagements start with a minimum two-month commitment. That's long enough to understand the business, build context and make meaningful progress, while keeping the commitment focused enough to adapt as your needs become clearer.
Some engagements continue longer-term. Others are designed to get you through a specific challenge or transition and then hand things back to the team.
What if we don't know how much product support we need yet?
That's okay. You don't need to have the role fully defined before we start. We can begin with a level of support that makes sense for the immediate problem and adjust from there.
If you need more support as things develop, we can increase the engagement. If the business stabilizes or your needs change, we can scale it back.
The goal is to give you the right level of product leadership for the situation you're actually in.
What does working together actually look like?
I can step in as an experienced product leader alongside your existing team, take ownership of product priorities and the roadmap, work through a specific product or delivery problem, or provide more hands-on support as an embedded Senior Product Manager.
We'll agree on the level of involvement, priorities and ways of working at the start, then adjust as the work evolves.
Will you work with our existing product manager or team?
Absolutely. I work alongside product, engineering and leadership teams — providing additional experience, helping with difficult decisions, creating structure where it's needed, and coaching people along the way.
Sometimes the best outcome is that the team becomes more confident and capable without needing me there long-term.
Why work with an independent consultant rather than hire a contractor or employee?
An independent consultant can bring senior experience into the business quickly, without the long-term commitment of a permanent hire.
You get focused expertise without taking on a full-time salary, benefits or employment commitment, and you can scale the engagement around the work that actually needs to get done.
More importantly, you get someone who is used to stepping into unfamiliar environments, getting up to speed quickly and helping teams make progress.
How quickly can you start?
Usually within two to four weeks of agreeing on the engagement.
Do you work with companies outside Alberta?
Yes. I work remotely with companies and teams across North America, with the option to work on-site in Calgary when it makes sense.
